Elk hunting at its finest

We invite you to hunt with us on our well managed elk ranch that totals around 10,000 acres. Our properties are nestled into the foothills of the crazy mountains which are located in central Montana. Our goal is to limit the number of hunters we take which decreases pressure and increases success. Hunt tactics include a mixture of ground blinds, calling, and spot and stalk hunting. While it is possible to access the property by vehicle, we try to minimize disturbance by utilizing horses and hiking when possible. Trophy potential varies depending on a number of factors including time of year, temperature, weather patterns etc. but most hunters have a chance at 5x5 and 6x6 bulls. 

We would classify this ranch as having moderate terrain as far as elk country is concerned. This means that you don’t have to climb thousands of feet every day to reach the elk. However, it is still elk country and the ranch is over 6000’ in elevation. It is for this reason that we ask all hunters to make sure they show up in good physical condition. You will have more fun and your odds of success only increase by being in good shape.

We are fully booked for the 2022 season. 2023 space is extremely limited.

Archery Hunts - Our archery hunts take place in the month of September and the first week of October. The hunting on this ranch is truly spectacular, hunters can expect to see and hear bugling bulls every day of their hunt. We limit the ranch to two hunters per week to minimize pressure and maximize success.

Our shot opportunity on bull elk was 82%. We still have a limited number of spots available for 2021 so if you are interested in hunting elk please give us a call or send us a message.

Rifle Hunts - Our rifle hunts take place in late October and run through late November. We maximize hunter success by limiting the number of hunters we allow on the property over the course of the season. The first two hunts have a max group size of four hunters per week. The remaining hunts have a max group size of two hunters per week. Weather can play a huge roll in the success of the hunt. As hot weather can cause the elk to hole up and a massive snow storm can push elk out of the area. Overall this is a very enjoyable hunt with high odds of success. Hunter success in 2020 was 80%.

Q: What is the best caliber rifle to bring with on this hunt?

A: We prefer a 7mm Magnum or a 300 Win Mag. There is no such thing as overkill and these larger calibers help minimize tracking and are not as affected by the wind. We always recommend having a muzzle brake on your weapon to minimize recoil.

Q: What is the average shot distance?

A: This is the most common and difficult questions to answer. If one hunter shoots a buck at 400 yards and one shoots a bull at 50 yards then what is the “average” shot? Elk have good eyesight and use the open landscape to their advantage to avoid predators. We ask that you show up with an accurate rifle and are comfortable using it out to at least 300 yards. We kill a number of bulls inside of 250 yards but if you can shoot 350+ it will only increase your odds of success.

Amenities

Hunt includes food, lodging and travel to and from the hunt area. Guests stay in a renovated, fully furnished four bedroom house in the town of White Sulphur Springs. We will provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In addition to cooking at the house there are great local eating options as well.
